Declan Levy is an audio engineer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist

with a degree in Classical Composition from the SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Music, where he studied under Laura Kaminsky and other internationally recognized composers. His work bridges the gap between the concert hall and the studio, bringing a deep understanding of musical craft to every recording.

I began working at Brawling Bears Studio in the summer of 2020. At the time, the studio was stuck in limbo. Mixers, DI boxes and nests of cables created an unacceptably high noise floor. The studio’s computer, interfaces and digital clock struggled to keep up with the fast-paced workflow. Noisy patchbays negatively affected most recordings, even when using high-end equipment.

While attending school remotely in 2021, I dove into the technicalities of building a recording studio, and learned how to create a flexible studio environment at home. After installing better gear, cleaning connections and designing a more functional system, the studio transitioned from a DIY home studio toward a truly professional facility, with the means to record at the highest fidelity.

In its final state, modern equipment of the highest fidelity (including multiple Lynx Auroras, Lynx Hilos, Genelec 8300 series monitor speakers, RME Babyfaces, Kemper Profiler Amps, Roland TD50X Modules, and Grace m108s) seamlessly integrate with each other via analog and digital pathways. Two Equitech Model Q power conditioners ensure clean, balanced power reaches hundreds of devices cleanly and efficiently. Five individual computers connect and exchange information with each other over ethernet, and aggregate to form a network of sample libraries and virtual instruments. Artists record through bass and guitar amplifiers hundreds of feet away, and digitally control them through local KVM stations. Session players can record in spacious rooms enabled with talkback and KVM control, so artists can easily communicate with each other from different rooms.

Music has been a lifelong passion of mine; I hope to share that passion with you.
